WHY IS MY METHOD DIFFERENT?

I offer you a unique approach that integrates the best of two worlds

1. Traditional Yoga

Yoga is an ancient tradition that emphasizes the importance of being present in the moment and help you to find a sense of connection and inner peace through breathing, meditation and relaxation.

From a physical perspective, it is mostly based on stretching and a set sequence of static postures.

2. Functional Movement

It allows us to “function” in the way we have been designed to. Although nowadays we don’t need to hunt in order to survive, our body is capable of so much more than sitting on a chair all day long -we can squat, jump, crawl and climb.

It has to do with the kinetic chain of movement where muscles work together rather than in an isolated hold.

We can become very good at yoga, but let’s be honest, we don’t do Triangle Pose or The Wheel in our ordinary life. Right?

HOW DO I APPLY THIS IN MY CLASSES?

We work both flexibility and mobility in order to reduce the gap between active and passive ranges and mitigate the risk of injuries.

1. Flexibility

Passive Range of Motion

This is what we work mostly in traditional yoga. Flexibility is how far we push into a stretch. It relates to a Passive Range of Motion because you use an external force to do that movement.

For example: when you move one leg straight towards the chest and hold it with your hand or a belt.

2. Mobility

Active Range of Motion

Mobility has to do with joint movement and is the meeting of flexibility, strength and neurological control. It is an Active Range of Motion because it uses the muscles involved in that movement to make it happen.

For example: when you lift the leg straight towards the chest and hold it in your end range without any assistance.
